The concept of HomeAid was begun in Orange County in 1989. Members of the Building Industry Association became aware that their members could support non-profits in their community by doing what they do best…building! As homebuilders, a decision was made to focus their efforts on the broad area of those in transition. In order to impact the largest number of people over the long term the decision was made to work with established non-profits with a proven track record of serving those in transition. HomeAid would not try to duplicate existing services but rather would focus their efforts on increasing the capacity of those agencies with a proven record of success. This concept worked so well that BIA chapters around the country played a leading role in spreading HomeAid nationwide. At present there were 17 HomeAid Chapters nationwide who had completed more than 130 projects.
HomeAid Inland Empire has been part of this success. Initially separate HomeAid Chapters were started in San Bernardino and Riverside counties. The first HomeAid project in the Inland Empire was dedicated in May 1990 and steady progress has continued since then. Twelve projects have been completed in the Inland Empire to date. In 2004 a consensus was reached to gain economies of scale by combining the two county chapters into the Inland Empire regional chapter. HomeAid has continued to grow with 5 projects currently under development.
Our Mission Statement
The Board of Directors of HomeAid Inland Empire established the following as their official mission statement:
Our mission is to build dignified housing
where homeless families can rebuild
their lives throughout the Inland Empire
Goals
HomeAid Inland Empire has two primary complimentary goals. First we want to assist local agencies who are committed to serving the transitionally homeless to maximize their capacity to serve by expanding their physical facilities. Second we want to be sure the entire community understands that HomeAid projects are only possible through the generous support of local Home Builders and their Trade Partners.
